Ben Simmons’ Torn Achilles Deals Kings a Blow Beyond the Scoring Column

NBA.com reports Ben Simmons suffered a torn Achilles during Sunday’s practice, putting the Kings guard’s scoring, rebounding and playmaking contributions in focus.

Sacramento Kings guard Ben Simmons suffered a torn Achilles tendon during practice Sunday, NBA.com reports. For Sacramento, the basketball significance extends beyond his scoring average: Simmons’ latest numbers show contributions as a scorer, rebounder and passer, even if they come from a brief stretch of action.

Simmons averaged 10.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists across two games, shooting 53.8% from the field. That combination is the central takeaway for the Kings. Evaluating his contribution strictly through points would overlook the rebounds and assists alongside them. The challenge is not simply accounting for one scoring figure, but considering several categories of production together.

His shooting numbers also deserve a careful reading. A 53.8% field-goal mark offers a positive snapshot of his overall shooting results, while his 0.0% mark from three provides no evidence of perimeter scoring success in those appearances. Neither percentage, over just two games, establishes a reliable longer-term trend. The same caution applies to treating his averages as a settled expectation.

That leaves Sacramento with a clear but measured takeaway: Simmons’ early statistical contribution was broader than scoring alone. His injury puts that all-around output into focus, without making a two-game sample carry more weight than it should. The numbers illustrate what he contributed—not a formula for replacing it.
