Philadelphia opened its season with a 106-100 victory over the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden on October 20, 2026, powered by Tyrese Maxey’s 28 points and a productive supporting cast. The 76ers moved to 1-0, while the Knicks started 0-1 despite strong rebounding performances from Karl-Anthony Towns and Andre Drummond.
Maxey delivered more than scoring in his 40 minutes, adding four rebounds, five assists, three steals and three blocks. He shot 9-for-19 from the field despite going 2-for-9 from beyond the arc. Jaylen Brown supplied an efficient complement with 19 points on 7-for-14 shooting, including 2-for-4 from deep, alongside eight rebounds and six assists. Brown finished with a plus-17 rating.
LeBron James contributed across the box score with 14 points, nine rebounds and seven assists. Joel Embiid recorded 13 points and 11 rebounds, adding six assists, two steals and three blocks. Although Embiid shot 4-for-15 from the floor, his rebounding, playmaking and defensive production gave Philadelphia contributions beyond its leading scorers.
Jalen Brunson led New York with 21 points but finished 6-for-19 from the field. Towns scored 19 on 6-for-9 shooting, hit three of his four 3-point attempts and grabbed 12 rebounds in 24 minutes. Drummond added 12 points, 14 boards and four assists, while Josh Hart supplied 14 points, seven rebounds and three assists. Those efforts were not enough to keep Philadelphia from taking the road win.
