Max Strus' Foot Injury Leaves Clippers Without a Versatile Contributor

Max Strus will miss the Clippers’ season opener and beyond, putting his shooting, rebounding and complementary playmaking in focus.
Max Strus will miss the start of the season with a foot injury, NBA.com reports. For the Los Angeles Clippers, the impact is about more than replacing a scoring average. Strus’ latest season numbers show a contributor whose value stretches across shooting, rebounding and passing, making his absence a challenge on multiple fronts.
Across 30 games, Strus averaged 10.2 points while shooting 42.2% from the field and 37.8% from three-point range. That three-point percentage is the clearest reason to watch how the Clippers handle their perimeter offense without him. Replacing his points is one task; finding outside shooting that can offer comparable efficiency is another. His overall scoring output may not demand a wholesale rethink, but it still represents production Los Angeles must find elsewhere.
The less obvious piece is his work beyond scoring. Strus averaged 5.1 rebounds and 2.1 assists, numbers that broaden the assignment for anyone absorbing his responsibilities. A replacement who supplies points alone would not necessarily replicate that combination of contributions.
That is the central challenge for the Clippers at the outset: replacing a collection of useful skills rather than one standout statistic. Strus’ numbers suggest the most effective response would address all three areas, not simply chase his 10.2 points per game.
