Banchero’s Ankle Sprain Adds Pressure to Magic’s 0-2 Start

NBA.com reports Paolo Banchero will miss time with a high ankle sprain, leaving Orlando to navigate an 0-2 start without his scoring, rebounding and playmaking.

Magic forward Paolo Banchero will miss time with a high ankle sprain, NBA.com reports. For an Orlando team sitting at 0-2 with two consecutive losses, his absence adds another challenge to an already difficult start. The Magic need to change their results while accounting for a player whose latest season averages show contributions across several areas.

The scoring is the clearest pressure point. Banchero averaged 22.6 points over 76 games, shooting 45.5% from the field and 31.2% from three-point range. Orlando’s challenge is not simply finding more shot attempts elsewhere; it is turning those opportunities into enough production to offset his absence. His scoring average makes that a substantial task, even without treating every missing point as a fixed replacement target.

His 8.4 rebounds and 5.3 assists per game broaden the issue. Focusing only on points would undersell what Orlando must cover. Those averages reflect a player contributing on the glass and helping create baskets, so the response needs to extend beyond who takes the shots Banchero otherwise might have attempted.

At 0-2, the Magic have little positive momentum to lean on. That record does not determine where their season goes, but Banchero’s absence makes the immediate assignment tougher: improve results while redistributing responsibilities that reach well beyond scoring.
