Bam Adebayo kept A’ja Wilson’s repeat WNBA MVP honor quiet—a personal-side story that offers a different lens on Miami’s productive center.
Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo kept the secret that A’ja Wilson was the WNBA’s MVP again, NBA.com reported. It is a basketball story without a box-score payoff: Wilson’s recognition supplies the achievement, while Adebayo’s role was keeping it under wraps. For a player whose work is usually measured in points, rebounds and assists, this is a different kind of supporting contribution.
The on-court numbers give that contrast some weight. Adebayo averaged 20.1 points and 10.0 rebounds across 73 games in his latest season, pairing scoring production with a double-double average. Those figures make him more than a passing name in a story about another star’s accomplishment. He brings a substantial statistical profile of his own, even when the spotlight belongs elsewhere.
His 3.2 assists per game add another dimension to that profile. Calling his discretion an off-court assist is a fun comparison, not a basketball evaluation. Keeping an MVP secret does not explain his passing, scoring or rebounding, and it should not be asked to.
That distinction matters with his shooting numbers, too: 44.2% from the field and 31.8% from three remain part of the assessment of his season. The MVP story offers a lighter angle on Adebayo without changing that evaluation. Wilson earned the recognition; Miami’s center helped keep the news quiet.
